Tom and Joanne are a match made well from Match.com actually. During our downtown engagement photoshoot they were telling me a bit about themselves and their dating story. As much as I’d love to try to tell you this, Tom is the one with the better words. Here are Tom’s words about how they met and their first date.
“It was with one, subtle wink that this story begins. One, subtle click of a “wink” hyperlink that forever changed two lives. Destiny was served hot that day, in the form of a Match.com message burning a hole in a digital inbox.
They say that 1 in 5 relationships start online, however statistics show only about 5% of these couples end in marriage. These two soon to be “lovebirds” were a 99% match according to the dating industry’s finest algorithms. But would they overcome the math of the daunting 5% statistic?
After getting to know each other via messaging on the Nation’s birthday weekend, Tom asked Joanne to dinner the following week. Pierpont’s in Union Station was the destination to meet but the actual first meeting was in the lobby. As Joanne opened the East doors to the lobby, it was as if the world slowed it’s spin down just for Tom to be able to catch an extra glimpse of this miracle that was walking toward him. After the exchange of a hand-made paper rose, and an awkward hand shake it was time for this last-first date to commence.
What an anything but typical experience for the two. She ordered the humble pesto pasta, whereas he orders the regal stuffed trout. Questions filled the air around the table. Tom swears that tables around the pair were listening in on their conversation, it was just that great. The veterinarian met the microbiologist, the soccer hooligan met the horse enthusiast, the dog lover met the dog lover. Nothing was off limits as the two chattered into the night. The lucky duo seemed to never run out of anything to converse about. The date even needed to be extended for the twosome who just couldn’t stop getting to know each other. After a trip through the fountains in Crown Center, the date begrudgingly ended.
Of course to make a long story, short: Joanne and Tom liked each other, and continue to see each other. The relationship grows and deepens everyday, both never even thinking of imagining what life would be without the other. All of which started, from a simple click of a mouse.”
